When a body is unearthed in a mini-market car park Jan Fabel, Chief of the Hamburg murder squad, suspects it is a young woman, Monika Krone, who disappeared 15-years earlier. Some days later a prominent artist is murdered in bizarre circumstances. A further three bizarre murders follow and Fabel starts to suspect that they may be linked in some way to the discovery of Monika's body.
